More Information
Rolled fondant has been gaining in popularity in the United States for the last 10 years or so. Due in large part to many of the tv cake shows and challenges we are able to view now. To be specific, it is a sugar dough that is rolled out similar to pie crust and draped over a shaped cake. It is then molded to the sides and trimmed at the bottom to achieve a flawless, porcelain- like finish. It can then be painted on, crimped, quilted, made to look like satin or silk with edible dusts, etc... there are so many wonderful looks we can achieve! Unfortunately, it is more labor intensive, as well, therefore, more expensive. It has also gotten a bad wrap, as people say they don't like it. To those people, I say, it is not about taste, it is about texture. Fondant dries to the touch and is chewy in nature. My fondant has a white chocolate base and is very delicious!
